Google Ditches Desserts as Android Q Becomes Android 10

Ending the tradition that started in 2009 Google has confirmed the Android Operating Systems will no longer be named after treats or desserts.

Earlier this year Google announced their new android OS Android Q in an I/O event, during the presentation they explained the new features and specialties of Android Q but not what “Q” stands for.

Everyone thought it was Quiche, Quinoa or Quesadilla but as a surprise, Google named their new OS Android Q as Android 10. Plus, the logo is going from green to black.

Google has abandoned its best loved legacy of naming their new products after desserts:

Google Quoted “This naming tradition has become a fun part of the release each year,”

Based on the feedback gathered over the years L and R are not distinguishable when spoken in some languages making it  hard for new android users to understand whether their device is running the latest version or not.

Google said in their official post that,

“We’re changing the way we name our releases. Our engineering team has always used internal code names for each version, based off of tasty treats, or desserts, in alphabetical order. This naming tradition has become a fun part of the release each year externally, too. But we’ve heard feedback over the years that the names weren’t always understood by everyone in the global community”

Android 10 didn’t stop with the name; they updated their mobile platform logo by switching fonts and changing the text from android green to black and using a close up view of the android robot which is colored in a new shade of green.
