Paypal, the popular online payment processing service has decided to kill its apps on several mobile platforms. The select platforms are Amazon, Blackberry and Windows phone. There will be support till June 30, 2016.
Paypal made it clear in a statement that the move is to allow its app developers to focus more on Android and iOS platforms. While the three above mentioned platforms have never been major players in the mobile app market, ignoring Amazon’s Fire OS might show its effects, considering the popularity of Amazon’s tablets.
Paypal’s global consumer product and engineering VP Joanna Lambert said the focus on iOS and Android apps will enable the company to “innovate and make enhancements to Paypal’s mobile experiences to give our customers the best possible ways to manage and move their money.”
Joanna had said in the company blog that “It was a difficult decision to no longer support the PayPal app on these mobile platforms,” she further wrote “But we believe it’s the right thing to ensure we are investing our resources in creating the very best experiences for our customers. We remain committed to partnering with mobile device providers, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers,”
Many predict that this will be an opportunity for digital currency Bitcoin. Only time can tell.
