Android 6.0 – A Marshmallow Treat from Google

Android 6.0 - A Marshmallow Treat from Google

Google’s lust for sugary treats is no big secret. So it came as no surprise when they decided to name their soon-to-be-released operating system for Android phones as “Marshmallow”.

"Whether you like them straight out of the bag, roasted to a golden brown exterior with a molten center, or in fluff form, who doesn't like marshmallows?" product manager Jamal Eason asked in a post on the Android developer blog.

Eason has made it clear that the software is available for developers to develop or update applications. The latest version has used enhancements like fingerprint sensors and an even updated power saving mode.

It also streamlines the "permissions" model, so that users can install and upgrade apps. Hence apps needn’t grant permissions when they are being installed or upgraded. Instead applications can request permissions as it needs them.

This is a welcome change as nearly 80% of smart phones worldwide use Android many of which are older versions lacking upgrades.
